Protect Your Trees!
What is the Spotted Lanternfly (SLF)?
Lycorma delicatula, or Spotted Lanternfly (SLF) is an invasive species of Asian planthopper that may be devastating to certain crops and trees in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. SLF has 2 pairs of wings (outer gray/brown with noticeable black spots, and red and black hind wings visible during flight) but typically jumps more than it flies.
Types of damage caused
The SLF feeds on various plant species, particularly the Tree of Heaven, but also including the Black Walnut, Red Maple, grapes, fruit trees and hardwood trees! While feeding, SLF excretes sugar water which is a food source for fungus that grows on plants and fruit leading to reduced photosynthesis and plant health.
